British American Tobacco • Integrated Report • 2017 • Governance

  • Connectivity of information
  • Consistency and comparability

Key observations:

Within the Governance section of the report, British American Tobacco lists the activities undertaken by the Board during the year under each of the company’s strategic priorities. This outlines the way in which the Board has influenced and monitored the strategic direction of the company, thus demonstrating how the company’s governance structure supports its ability to create value, in compliance with paragraph 4.8 of the <IR> Framework. The link between strategy and governance is often one of the hardest to demonstrate, but BAT clearly provides insight into how the Board focusses on the company’s strategy, and how this relates to its ability to create value in a sustainable way.
